RCAA Welcomes Its New Treasurer Mary Ann Galle

One of the most loyal members of the RCAA since we returned in 2006 has been artist Mary Ann Galle. We are pleased to announce that she has taken over the duties of Treasurer for the organization.


Thank you to Mary Ann for all that you do! We appreciate your sticking by us through your trying times and for your commitment to the arts in Mississippi.

RCAA Member Showcase their work at MS Diagnostic Lab in 2008

In 2008 members of the Rankin County Arts Alliance have been busy showcasing their work throughout the state.

Early in 2008 members took advantage of having their work on display at the MS Diagnostic Lab in Rankin County. The exhibit which ran for months was able to allow others to see what we already knew: Rankin County has talent!






A big thank you goes out to the artists who participated in the project. We look forward to seeing more of your work around town in the months to come.

Conversations Book Club Founder Expands with New Partnerships, Opportunities

 

 

 

Since the first time his name was in print back in 1999, Cyrus A. Webb knew his life would never be the same. Nine years later he is an accomplished visual and literary artist/radio and television show host, newspaper columnist, magazine founder and editor as well as the President of the nation's largest interactive literary organization. Additionally, he is the President of the Rankin County Arts Alliance and the Chief of Staff of the public relations firm For The People Productions. All of this, and he has yet to celebrate his 33rd birthday.

 

With all of his accomplishments, Webb is constantly looking for ways to further his brand and do his part to contribute to the literary scene.

 

Beginning Saturday, March 1, 2008 he will add another slash to his resume: book reviewer for the State of Mississippi's largest daily newspaper! His weekly column that will be found in the "Rankin Ledger" section of the newspaper every Saturday will allow him to give an honest review of the books that he is currently reading and recommending to others. This is just one other way that Webb's brand will introduce him to people all over the world. (Thank you to the Editor of the Rankin Ledger for making this possible.)

 

Currently Webb is contributing articles to the Jackson Advocate Newspaper, Books2Mention Magazine, Blagazine and RAWSISTAZ---with the focus being on reading. It is his hope that this new endeavor will help others to appreciate books and look at them in a whole new way.

Rankin County Student Art on display at Pearl LIbrary in March 2008

Rankin County Student Art will be on display at the Pearl Public Library, March 9-31, 2008.  Students from Puckett Jr. High and High School, Florence High School, and Pearl High School will have pieces on display. 
 
On March 13th from 6:00-7:30 a reception will be held to meet the artists. Refreshments will be served. 

The public is encouraged to attend.

Mary Porter, a valued member of the Rankin County Arts Alliance, shared this exciting opportunity with me on Friday, January 25, 2008---and all of our members have a chance to be a part of it!

 

Mississippi Diagnostic Laboratory is looking for artists to have artwork on display over the next 6 months. The Rankin County Arts Alliance will be able to have over 20 pieces of artwork on their walls over that time period to be switched out after 3 months to allow fresh art.

 

This is the first time that the RCAA has had this opportunity! We thank Mary for letting us know about this venue, but in order to participate you have to be at the MS Diagnostic Laboratory between 10:00-10:30a.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2008. Please bring all the artwork you want considered for this showing, and we will hang it according to a first come, first serve basis and is contingent on the space available.

 

The laboratory is off of Airport Rd.  You will take Airport road going toward Whitfield.  There is a 3 way stop and you will take a right at the 3 way stop and go approximately 1-3/10 of a mile to the lab.  There will be a Rankin Juvenile Court System, State Surplus Property and the Forestry Academy and then the Diagnostic Lab. The address is 3137 Hwy. 468 W, Pearl, MS.

OUR NEW YEAR RESOLUTION: Support the Arts in Rankin County in '08

The Rankin County Arts Alliance will be holding its first meeting of 2008 on Monday, February 4, 2008. It will be held at the Subway Restaurant in Pearl, MS (3000 HWY 80E) at 6:30p.m., and will serve as a meet and greet for those interested in supporting the arts, as well as a way to learn about the RCAA's plans for the new year. This is open to members and nonmembers alike.

 

On the agenda is to address how to reach out to the youth in the county as well as plans to host more frequent art shows to exhibit the work of Rankin County residents.
